Cash, the New King!

All Hail the King

It has been said that money is the root of all evil, and it has been said that money can’t buy you love, and it even has been said that money isn’t everything. However, it has also been said that all of these statements are made by people without money!

So what exactly does money do for us? Why is the almighty dollar so coveted? Why is it that people from all walks of life, and from every corner of the world, go to any extreme to acquire money. Many will commit unspeakable crimes and even commit murder for monetary gain.

While it is certainly true that money will buy material goods and provide us a more comfortable lifestyle, what else does it do for us? How many cars or houses do we really need to be happy? Is it happiness that we seek? Surely there must be an inner drive or secret force that compels us to continuously obtain more wealth.

I believe that the real reason we are chasing the dollar is that money provides us security. Not just a financial sanctuary from debt, but a fortification from many things in the world that we believe can harm us or our families.

The potential for loss of proper medical care or homelessness are two of the many things that motivate us, even scare us, to gather wealth in order to protect ourselves. While it may be true that money may solve a lot of our problems, would it really protect us?

In medieval times a person swore allegiance to a king. In return, a loyal subject would be rewarded by being allowed to live within the boundaries of the kingdom and be granted protection for his family.

Human nature remains the same today in that we still have the desire for security and protection. However, the castles are now empty and the royal guard is long gone. Who will protect us now?

Perhaps we have now traded our allegiance for a new king. A modern king, more powerful than the traditional kings - cash!

Remember, it has been said that “Cash is King"!

Excellent writing. Funny how cash motivates us! I believe everyone ought to be broke at least once in their lives so they can break away from the fear of not having any money.

Yes, cash is king, no doubt about it. However, smartly used credit places a good second - we use our credit card for many regular and irregular monthly purchases and pay it off in full and collect hundreds of Airmiles this way.
